The 2006 Classic Arcade Gaming
(dot com) Tournament
pictures

The inaugural, and historic, 2006 Classic Arcade Gaming (dot com) Tournament, co-held by Classic Arcade Gaming (dot com) and Challenge Arcade, featured the first arcade tournament in history to give players a choice of the games that they could play.  It was also the first tournament to feature so many popular classic titles, which included Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Pole Position II, Zoo Keeper, Dragon's Lair, Crystal Castles, Paperboy, and Pengo.  A number of world records were set, and eleven players in total entered, including Donald Hayes, Brian Kuh, Bryan Wagner, Pat Laffaye, Richard Marsh, Kelly Tharp, Frank Lupia, Ryan Moss, and others.  Shown in thumbnail view below is a pictorial summary of the events that took place at, and around, the Challenge Arcade mall location.  The pictures are all shown in chronological order, and span all three contest days (Friday, March 17th through Sunday, March 19th).  For the full-size version of the picture, click on any thumbnail shown, and you'll also get more details about each shot, including the day, and time, it was taken.

NOTE:  for the moment, I've put the pictures up, minus my usual explanatory captions (other than on this page).  Due to the large amount of pictures (well over 50), I wanted to get them up ASAP, and adding captions would have delayed things by more than a day.  So, while the captions will soon be up, you can enjoy the pictures themselves in the meantime.

Yours truly, Mark Alpiger, basks
in the glow of a new The Glob

to award the money !

Contestants gather to hear the results.  The gal next to
Bryan is his girlfriend.

This shot shows 6 of the
11 tourney entrants.

I explain a few things about scoring, and other issues, and get ready to hand out the moolah !

First up is the contest winner - Brian Kuh - who gets $200 for his success.

Next is Donald Hayes, who
takes second place, and $100.

Finally, we have Bryan Wagner
taking third place, and getting $50.

Alright - it's Monday, and the tournament is over, but Kelly
and I stop into the arcade
before my flight out.

Joe's there too, and can't resist playing his new fave -
Pole Position II.

Well, I had to beat Donald back on 'my' game - The Glob.  And, I did.

Here's the new 'Glob' wr - 133,834 points.  And, I have it on tape.

The high score table shows my wr.

Well, I also had to document the setup of the 'Glob' kit in the
arcade's Pac-Man game.

Here's a closer view.

Now, a close-in view of the
control panel, and overlay.

Joe's still trying for a high-
score on PP II.

Let's wind things down with a tour
of the arcade.  Here's a mix of modern, and classic, titles.

This row features newer game titles.

This row features mostly fighters.

Another mix of games is shown.

A nice mix of laser, monochrome,
and color titles is shown in this shot.

Kelly tried to make a good mark on The Glob too, and he did - 77,529.

Now, back to the gameroom tour.  Here's a neat view looking
down 'classics row'.

Here's the view down the row in
the other direction.  Looks like
Joe's still trying for a great score.

Classics surround the more
modern Raiden II.

Two modern titles are shown here.

We'll wrap up with two of the most popular classic titles - Donkey Kong, and Star Wars.
